Outlander

An alien vessel crash lands on earth bringing with it the destruction to the viking way of life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It has everything I could want in a B-rated movie. Alien monsters, Vikings, Sword Fights, humor and a decent plot.

The movie starts with a space craft passing by earth on its way home to bury their dead. It crash lands on earth bringing with it a monster that would be close to a dragon in viking days and the sole survivor of the crash.

It is not long before the beast attacks a nearby village and slaughters all of the inhabitants. Kainan the loan survivor of the space crash is blamed and captured.

During his captivity by a neighboring village the monster strikes again. Filled with fear of the alien beast "Morwin" the vikings and Kainan join together to hunt down the beast.

This movie is filled with beautiful choreographic sword fights. Early on in the movie the King and his daughter freya spar in the great hall. The Sword play is at least half the film but it doesnt feel like it is just a repeat scene.

The set is full of stunning wooded land scape that makes you truly believe you are in the vikings time.

The characters come alive with Viking game and garb.

Against the Dark

Stranded in a world where the night brings death and the light is salvation leaves little hope for the remaining survivor of the virus.

The world is in turmoil with a mutating virus that is infecting the population. It is turning the infected into Vampires. Humans or what is left of them find secure locations for shelter at night to survive one more day.

For a B Rated movie I enjoyed watching it. You have Vampires that have more characteristics of zombies with a sunlight hate. They rip apart flesh to eat, one bite causes infection and any shot to the chest or head kills them.

The movies starts off with a group of survivors looking to find medication for their party member. While exploring they meet up with a couple of peopel who have been living in the hospital secured in a room. Their motive is to get to their truck through the hospital and drive to a military/survivor camp. Along their perilous journey through the hospital they meet various resistance to their survival.

While this is happening a group of Vampire hunters are clearing the town of the infected building by building. They will meet up about half way through the movie in the hospital.

Traits of the cast are following:

A group of people who are trying to find medication in a hospital for their sick ally and a group of Black Leather Commandos who's job is to clean the town of the infected.

The Vampire hunters wield swords and guns while the surviving humans carry no weapons at all. They are almost wishing to be food to the slaughter.

Sword fights are entertaining, but don't expect a bruce lee or lighting swords of death moment here. They shots are close and quick.

The Vampires are of more interest. They vary in their skills and mentality. Some scenes the vampires are more human and can carry on a conversation. Other parts in the movie the Vampires only scream and hiss and try to sink their teeth into you.

The survivors roles in this movie were not thought all the way through. I do not remember seeing them packing many weapons at all. If I was one of the last humans alive I would be defending myself with a bat, gun, rock or knife at least.

In the end the movie is worth renting to see the survivors struggle to outlast the vampires. This movie has plot holes that are clear to see. In the prologue the narrator says that they sleep at night and only travel by day. Then the movie starts with the group traveling at night. They enter the hospital through a window. I wasn't able to figure out what floor but during the progression of the movie they descend at least 4-5 floors down to get to the truck.

This part didn't make sense to me as you see in the end the truck isn't in the garage. It is parked outside. So why didnt they just wait till morning and exit through the window and walk to the truck parked outside.

Steven Seagaul has a small role in this movie. He swings a sword, has a few one liners as he is a super bad ass but thats about all. He might have 20 mins of footage or at least it seems that way.

Overall Rating 2/5
Action 2/5
Plot 1/5
Acting 3/5
Vampires 4/5 - just for being chaotic fun.

NYC: Tornado Terror

Terrorizing tornadoes play through the streets of New York in this exciting B-Rated movie.

On a beautiful sunny day in central park, Dr. Cassie Lawrence(Nicole de Boer) and her Husband Jim Lawrence(Sebastian Spence) are serving hot dogs to the Firer Fighters. Mini twisters appear in the green grass where the children are playing. Awe struck at the sight of this unusual even Cassie, a meteorologist for NYC, watches as the mini tornadoes combine into a one deadly vortex of wind.

This leads the team of husband and wife on a journey of discovery on how to fight off mother nature's wrath.

Over all I enjoyed this movie. The Tornadoes scenes were realistic when descending from the skys to unleash their destruction. At one point in the movie they discus how electricty is unleashed during storm activity and encases the buildings of NY with green dancing static fire.

Scenes like that are what make the movies threat of iminent destruction come alive.

For my B-Rated pick i would say grab a few friends and brews, kick back and watch the predictable destruction of Ny.
